James Keys, III is the founder and sole member of The Keys Law Firm, PLLC. James is a Registered Patent Attorney with a technical background in computer science and systems development and management. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C in 2004 and his B.S. in Systems and Computer Science from Howard University in Washington D.C. in 2001. James is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and is currently a member of the Florida Bar and the Ohio Bar.
James’ practice includes all aspects of patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution, as well as strategic management of an intellectual property portfolio and patent, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, and trade secret litigation matters. He has extensive experience drafting, filing and prosecuting of U.S. and international patent applications, federal trademark applications, and U.S. copyright applications, as well as in litigation matters concerning patents, copyrights, trademarks (registered and common law), unfair competition, and trade secret.
Prior to founding The Keys Law Firm, PLLC, James practiced as a Registered Patent Attorney with Malin Haley DiMaggio & Bowen, P.A., an intellectual property boutique firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has also previously worked for the Law Office of David Kapor in Cincinnati, Ohio, and founded and managed MorganGunnKeys, LLC, a management firm in Cincinnati, Ohio. While in school, James served two years as a summer associate with Greenebaum Doll & McDonald, PLLC (now Dentons Bingham Greenebaum), and worked as a summer intern for the Procter & Gamble Distributing Company.
James has been or is presently a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, the Broward County Bar Association, the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court, and the National Society of Black Engineers.
